Presenter - Mary Gorman of EBG Consulting

Start Smart with Scope Modeling:

Leveraging the Requirements Roadmap and the IIBA BABOK

The problems that result from inaccurately specifying the scope of a project can permeate and threaten the entire development effort.  This presentation will describe effective, time-tested practices for developing scope-level user requirements quickly without compromising quality - a critical skill for Business Analyst professionals.

The Requirements Roadmap provides a useful framework for building multiple, interwoven models.  This presentation will highlight selected scope models on the roadmap, demonstrate the value of linking the models and provide a detailed cross reference to the IIBA Business Analysis Body of Knowledge (BABOK).

The roadmap is fulling described in Ellen Gottesdiener's latest book, The Software Requirements Memory Jogger: A Pocket Guide to Help Software and Business Teams Develop and Manage Requirements.  For each model on the roadmap, The Jogger answers:

    • What is it?

    • Why Use it?

    • What does it do?

    • How do I develop it?  and more.

Audience

This presentation assumes that participants are familiar with the problems associated with requirements elicitation and the weaknesses of textual requirements.  Familiarity with or exposure to a variety of requirements analysis models (such as process models, scenarios, business rules, data models, etc.) is desireable but not required.
